SpringCleanEating – Day 21

CYMERA_20160328_122718 (1)

If you read the previous post, I am working on pushing more water into my system.

My history? I would drink either no water or maybe a water if I was ever

1) really hot – like summer hot, or

2) just finished a cardio kickboxing or other fitness class.

Those were the only times I ever gave notice to water.  And the kicker?

“Up to 60% of the human adult body is made up of water.”

Read that here.

Ok. So all this time I’ve been so ignorant on the real need for water. If over half of my body is made up of water, that means it needs water for it to survive, and I drink coffee, and pop – two beverages that suck the water within me right out. Never paid attention. Never thought to care. Never knew I needed to care. Read this also from the same source:

Water serves a number of essential functions to keep us all going:

  • A vital nutrient to the life of every cell, acts first as a building material.

  • It regulates our internal body temperature by sweating and respiration

  • The carbohydrates and proteins that our bodies use as food are metabolized and transported by water in the bloodstream;

  • It assists in flushing waste mainly through urination

  • acts as a shock absorber for brain, spinal cord, and fetus

  • forms saliva

  • lubricates joints

I mean, I kinda knew about it, but never focused on it at the level I am now. So whether or not I “like” water, is irrelevant. I need water, almost as badly as a fish. Almost.

I felt pretty bad realizing how many years of my life I ignored water. It’s like the nice guy who always hoped I’d give him attention, but never looked in his direction. Ugh. Poor water. Had I known.

I always went for the bad boys. All ego and no heart. Temporary zing and fling, but no potential for a ring. I did learn well from that experience. It was only then when the perfect nice guy walked into my life and showed me how good he was for me, by just being himself. Being real and pure. No additives or preservatives. Just a great tall drink of water he was. And is. And to this day I’m still madly in love with my wise and wackadoo, fun and strong, nutty and incredibly thoughtful husband. Funny. He’s a Pisces. A fish. And he loves water. Live and learn.

And now in my food-relationship world, I guess water just walked into my life and sang a little Richard Marx tune to me, “Wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right here waiting for you.”

That water, I tell you. He’s the real thing.

The Hakuna to my Matata.

The flow to my ebbs.

We could really have a great future together. 🙂

So, I’ve been consciously downing water. Gluggity-glug-glug! I found that drinking out of my Tervis was the way to go. I realized that when I unconsciously drink, I finish that water real fast.

Refilling my Zero-Water pitcher, I got myself to drinking about three 16 oz. glasses. I’m trying to get to 5 or 6.

So I’m halfway there.

That’s the good news.

The bad news?

It’s kinda TMI but we are all adults here, right?

This is seriously me in terms of having to use the restroom now:

Lord, have mercy on my inside mechanics. Give me the strength to kegel things together when I travel and in meetings. Let me not give in to the force.

Please.

Amen.
